We talk with WINTER' S VERGE

There are no translations available.

The exciting 2nd album by Cyprus leadin epic heavy metal band WINTER' S VERGE will be released on January 29, 2010. So we thought its a big change to have a small interview with those rising stars. Lets see what George Charalambous (vocals) has to say.

1- Your new album "Tales Of Tragedy" must be out at the end of January, 2010. How do you feel about it?

We are very excited about it! New label, New drummer, a much better worked album and to top all off, we are going on tour with Stratovarius!

2- Can you desribe us how it sounds? Do you like to label us your kind of music?

Well, this album is a little bit different from the first one. It still has the melodic feel to it, but it is heavier with more guitar work, and Chris who is our new drummer, has brought a different feel as a whole, to the band. There are some epic and some progressive elements but other than that, it sounds like the second Winter?s Verge album.  I cannot really label our style of music, but I can safely say that we play melodic metal, with some epic and progressive elements.

3- You are the first metal band from Cyprus to make a deal with a such big label like Massacre Records. How do you feel about it?

I truly feel that we are very lucky, but we worked very hard for it! Massacre Records is a big label with big names in the roster! It is a dream come true!

4- Really how did you came up with the label?

After leaving from L.M.P we decided that we had to do something that was much better than the first album in every aspect. We went to ?The
Prophecy & Music Factory Studios? in Germany for the second time and recorded ?Tales of Tragedy? which we worked every detail to the maximum
under the guidance of our producer R.D. Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy) and studio engineer C. Schmid. We then came into contact with designer Meran
Karanitant who has done album artwork for bands such as Mystic Prophecy, Six Feet Under and Leaves? Eyes. We told him about the concept of the
album artwork that we had in mind and let him do his magic. I have to say that we are extremely satisfied with the end result. We sent the
finished album with the artwork to different companies and we got some good results, one of them like I mentioned above we were lucky enough to
get from Massacre Records. The rest is history!

5- Are you satisfied with the production of mr Liapakis?

Mr. Liapakis brought his experience to the studio and gave us a lot of ideas that we used. The production in our minds is great and we are very
happy with the final product.

6- Is there something could be better concerning the production?

Concerning production I think that we did the best that could be done! Concerning recordings I' m sure every musician will never be 101% happy
with what they had done after they listened to the final product. After some time everyone comes up with something that they could have done
extra!

7- Also you are going to tour Europe in January with such legends like Stratovarius & Mystic Prophecy...Whats your expectations through this tour?

This is the first major tour that we are having. Just the fact that we are going on the road with such legends is incredible! Our expectations from this tour are to give a good impression, and off course promote our new album.

8- In general whats your expectations through this new release?

Our expectations for the new album are to take the band a step further and to expand our fan base!

9- How your compatriots see WINTER' S VERGE? Are you quite famous down in Cyprus?

Cyprus is a small country with a relatively small Metal crowd compared to other countries. We all know each other so I guess all the heavy metal fans in Cyprus know or have heard of us.

10- Let us know some more home bands worth checking?

Although a small country we do have quite a few bands with different styles that are worth checking out! Some of them being Prodigal Earth, RUST, Sulphur, Blynd, Lethal Saint and  Terminal Disease.

11- Your album cover is amazing! Whats your opinion?

The album cover is amazing because it captures everything that has to do with "Tales of Tragedy". It is one of the "tales" of the new album, based on the song "The Captain's Log".

12- Why you name the album "Tales Of Tragedy"?

When you take the album and read the lyrics of each song one by one, you can see that it is like a story book with 11 different tales. Tales of
Tragedy.

13- Whats were your main influences for the creation of "Tales Of Tragedy"?

Basically we picked up where we left off from the first album and pushed ourselves a step further, in order to make what we believe in our minds
a better album than the previous one.

14- Give a point (perfect is 10) to your new album?

We?ll let the fans be the judges.

15- Last words are yours...

Thank you for the interview,

Cheers and Keep Rocking and we hope to see you down the road soon!

So for now We' ll just say Goodbye
